IRVINE Meadow could face relegation this weekend - despite not having a match to play.

It has been a challenging season so far for Ben Carson's side who currently find themselves rooted to the bottom of the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) Premier Division.

Meadow's situation was made even tougher after they slumped to their joint heaviest defeat of the season on Wednesday night - a 6-0 loss away to title-chasing St Cadoc's.

Carson is the third manager to lead Medda this season, following the departures of Kevin Deeney and then his replacement Martin Ferry, in what has been a turbulent year for the club.

With 25 matches played of their 30-game campaign, the Irvine side sit on 12 points, with just three wins - against Arthurlie, Glenafton and Pollok - and three draws on their record so far.

It means a maximum of 27 points can be attained from their remaining matches, which would be just enough to leapfrog three of the teams ahead of Meadow in the standings.

However, with Glenafton Athletic in fine form and moving up to 26 points earlier this week, having played only 23 matches, the East Ayrshire side could soon be moving out of sight.

It means that despite having two fixture-free weekends, Medda could find their fate sealed before a ball is kicked in their next match, at home to Largs Thistle on Saturday, April 20.

Glenafton have two matches before that time - home games against St Cadoc's and defending champions Beith Juniors on Saturday, April 6 and Tuesday, April 16 respectively.

Should Ryan Caddis's side beat St Cadoc's on Saturday, or pick up two or more points from those two games, then Meadow's relegation to the First Division will be confirmed.

Even if the Glens don't land those two points, Medda will still need a few favours, and a remarkable run, to turn their fortunes around at this stage in the campaign.
