SURPRISE plans are being hatched by debt-ridden Irvine Meadow to move away from their long-established ground to a proposed major multi-million development in nearby Quarry Road.

The news emerged following a supporters' meeting at the Social Club on Sunday at which it was agreed to go ahead with a Share Issue which is set to raise more than £30,000 for the club.

Chairman Robert Jeffrey told Sportttimes: "The meeting went well we had 80 people attending and we had good feedback from people. The Share Issue was agreed unanimously and that means supporters will be shareholders. We would urge the fans to back fundraisers which we have coming up."

Jeffrey said that the club were talking about a proposal to move to a new ground and said: "Meadow Park takes a lot of maintenance. and we own it. There is a proposal to move to a 3G pitch near the town centre but that's all I can say at this stage."

The club confirmed the news in sa tatement on their Facebook page on Monday.

It read: " At the Supporters Meeting on Sunday supporters agreed to a Share Issue of £100 per Share. Given the immediate requirement for funds supporters also agreed to contribute funds now and convert these donations to Shares when the new legal entity is set up. The committee is happy to report that a substantial sum has been raised in 24 hours from cash received, pledges and the conversion of supporter Loans to Shares. This is a very positive start but there is a long way to go. The committee are also exploring a proposal to relocate to Quarry Road as part of the new development. The Committee must stress that this is only at the proposal stage."

A follow-up meeting will be held on Sunday, April 3.

Meanwhile on-the-field Meadow manager Davie Greig says the club could appeal against defender Robert Halliday's first half dismissal in Saturday's 3-0 defeat away to Auchinleck Talbot,

He said: "We are considering an appeal. There was no malice in the challenge. The Talbot player was lying on the ball and he just tried to get it off him."

The boss was disappointed with the defeat but could take some positive and said: "We worked hard as a team and it's always tough at Auchinleck. The first and third goals were were well worked but the second came out because of lapse in concentration."

Greig will have another look at striker George Thomson who played as a Trialist on Saturday.

He said: "George did okay and should feature again."

Meadow face Cumnock away in the West of Scotland Cup third round on Saturday and Greig said: "We need a win and will hopefully go through."
