It's set to be a glorious May bank holiday weekend across Ayrshire, with plenty of sun and high temperatures across the region.

Sounds like the perfect weather for an ice cream, and there are plenty of top spots to grab a cone, tub or even a snowball!

Here we run down five of our favourite ice cream stops across Ayrshire to inspire you this weekend...

Varani's Forum Cafe

This Kilmarnock institution has been trading in the town for many years, and is especially popular at the weekends.

A variety of flavours are on offer, including the famous Killie Blue, with sundaes, cookie dough and much more to choose from.

Vanilla Joe's

Situated on the picturesque Irvine harbourside, Vanilla Joe's is a popular spot with North Ayrshire residents as well as visitors to the area.

This eatery also boasts a sit-in option, if you want to escape the sun for a little bit of shade while you enjoy your ice cream.

Renaldo's

If you think of Ayr, you think of Renaldo's. This award-winning spot was named the Best Dessert Shop in Ayrshire last year, and for good reason.

With a wide variety of flavours and options, there is something for everyone in the heart of Ayr.

Nardini's

Undoubtedly one of the most famous ice cream spots in the whole of Scotland, a visit to Largs isn't complete without an ice cream from Nardini's.

Grab a cone and take a stroll along the promenade, before browsing the local shops and products on offer.

Woody's

Woody's is a growing ice cream business with dessert parlours in Mauchline and a newly opened premises in Stewarton.

Alongside plenty of ice cream flavours, the business offers hot desserts and a host of home baking.
