Senior pupils at Loudoun Montgomery Primary recently enjoyed a visit to the Wellwood Burns Centre and Museum.

In the first week back at school after the holidays, primary six and seven pupils brushed up on their knowledge of Ayrshire's most famous son during the trip.

It is hoped the visit will help them excel at the upcoming Scots verse and Burns Night competitions across North Ayrshire.

On X (formerly Twitter), a school spokesperson said: "P6/7 were out and about in their first week back, visiting the Wellwood Burns Centre & Museum, located in Eglinton Street, Irvine.

"This was a great start to our senior pupils' Scots verse and Burns celebrations."

The museum is run by Irvine Burns Club and contains many artefacts relating to the poet's time spent in Irvine, where he learned the craft of flax dressing.
