Thousands of people flocked to Irvine on a frosty Friday night to enjoy a major festive event which was bigger than any which had been staged in the town for a number of years.
Irvine Community Council organised the Yuletide celebrations – the centrepiece of which was a parade from Bridgegate to the Moor, where there were a host of fairground rides and an opportunity for children to visit Santa in his grotto.
Among the revellers were John Brennan and his partner Lauren, along with children Jessica, Laylah and Gabby.
Lauren said: “It’s good for the children and we look forward to the shows and candy floss. We’re enjoying the night and the kids were looking forward to seeing Santa.”
Katy Brown brought along her daughter, Maisie, two, who took part in the parade along with the DDI (Dance Dream & Inspire) Dance School.
She said: “Maisie was looking forward to using the food tokens to go and get some chocolate.
"There was a great turnout and the organisers have put a lot into it. The weather definitely helped.”
Community councillors have thanked people who braved the elements to support the event.
They are also grateful to the Legacy Hub, Irvine Locality Partnership, the Lennox Partnership – North Ayrshire, Police Scotland, North Ayrshire Council Streetscene, Irvine Clean Up Crew, Irvine Royal Academy, Marymass Festival Committee, Fullarton Hub, DBA Dance Academy, 17th Irvine Rainbows, 16th and 10th Irvine Brownies, 4th Irvine Boys Brigade, DDI Dance School, Kelly McCrorie Dance School, Templeton School of Dance, Starlite Entertainment, Fantastic Event, Cadonas, Coastwatch and RBG Security plus National Lottery Awards For All and North Ayrshire Common Good Fund for their generous support.
Children’s discos were held on Saturday while a Christmas show and quiz night took place on Sunday.
