North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club (NATTC) made it a record eighth Scottish National league title after a hotly contested, winner takes all match at the Bells Sports Centre.

The previous record number of titles won by one side sat at seven, but NATTC eclipsed that as they defeated Murrayfield A in their final match.

Both sides went into the game having not lost a match, but it was NATTC who came out on top in a nailbiting affair.

Even more impressive is that all of North Ayrshire’s titles have come in a dominant last 10 years for the side.

The team of Chris Main Colin Dalgleish, Martin Johnson and Sean Docherty clinched the title going through the league unbeaten, winning all seven of their matches in this year’s competition.

A special mention must be given to Chris and Colin, who have competed in each of the clubs eight title wins.

The Scottish leagues now have six divisions, with 48 teams competing across the board.

Following the success of their first team, NATTC now have a B side, who following promotion last year, competed alongside North Ayrshire A in Division one this season.

The team of Ryan Henry, Andy McPherson and Jamie Johnson competed tremendously, finishing in third place, only five points behind the eventual winner, a great achievement for that side.

This was not the only table tennis action this week though, as NATTC saw two players secure championships at the Scottish schools finals.

Jamie Johnson from Auchenharvie Academy won the boy’s under 18 title and Holly McNamara from Ardrossan Academy won the Girl’s under 18 title.

Jessica Hogg from Largs Academy also finished as runner-up in the under 18’s event, in an all North Ayrshire final against Holly.

While 15 year old Nathan Hogg from Largs finished 3rd in the Under 16 boys.

Following their success, all four players have now qualified to represent Scotland in the British schools championships, which will take place in June.

Overall, it was a great weekend for the club as they continue to go from strength to strength.

Congrats to all involved from everyone at the Times.
